Short, straight answers to the questions we hear most from Huntington Beach drivers, new residents and visitors.
Where is Jim's Automotive Specialties located?
We're at 18471 Repair Ln, Suite B, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, in the Autopark center off Ellis Ave between Beach Blvd and Gothard St. Look for the red awning and the blue Jim's Automotive sign.
What are your hours?
We open at 8:00 AM Monday through Friday and are closed on weekends. Our closing time can vary, so please call ahead. Please call (714) 962-2400 to confirm before you come in.
Do I need an appointment?
Calling ahead is best. Call (714) 962-2400 or use our appointment request form, and we'll let you know when we can look at your car so you don't make a wasted trip.
What kinds of vehicles do you work on?
We work on most makes and models of cars, SUVs and light trucks. Call with your year, make and model and we'll confirm.
Will I get an estimate before any work is done?
Yes. As a California BAR-registered Automotive Repair Dealer we give you a written estimate and get your approval before starting work, and we won't go over it without your OK.
Is Jim's Automotive licensed in California?
Yes. Jim's Automotive Specialties, Inc. is a California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) registered Automotive Repair Dealer, Reg. #274049. You can verify any shop's registration on bar.ca.gov.
Can I see the old parts you replaced?
Yes. Just ask when you approve the work. Showing customers the worn or failed part is something our customers often mention in reviews. (Some warranty or core-exchange parts have to be returned to the supplier.)
Who owns Jim's Automotive?
Jim's Automotive Specialties is a family-owned shop. Most customers simply know the owner as Sam.
Do you do smog checks?
No, we don't perform smog inspections. Call us and we're happy to point you in the right direction.
My check engine light is on. Is it safe to drive?
If the light is steady and the car drives normally, it's usually OK to drive for a short time, but get it checked soon. If it's flashing, or the car runs rough or overheats, stop driving and call us.
How often should I change my oil?
Follow your owner's manual or oil-life monitor. Many modern cars on synthetic oil call for 5,000 to 10,000 miles, with a shorter interval for short trips, stop-and-go traffic or towing.
I'm visiting Huntington Beach and my car is having problems. Can you help?
Call us first at (714) 962-2400. Describe what's happening and we'll tell you honestly whether it seems safe to drive over and when we can take a look. If it's a rental car, contact the rental company before any repairs.
Is there somewhere to wait while my car is being checked?
Yes, we have a comfortable customer waiting lobby. For longer repairs, many customers drop the car off and arrange their own ride.
How do I get to the shop from PCH or the 405?
From PCH, go north on Beach Blvd and turn left on Ellis Ave. From the 405, exit at Beach Blvd, head south and turn right on Ellis Ave. Repair Ln is in the Autopark center off Ellis, between Beach Blvd and Gothard St.
What areas do you serve?
We're in Huntington Beach and also see drivers from Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa, Westminster, Seal Beach, Garden Grove, Newport Beach, Irvine and travelers passing through Orange County.
Is this the same Jim's Automotive Specialties as the one in Pennsylvania?
